Connected Under Pressure: Small Communication Shifts, Stronger Relationships

A live webinar from Thrive4Life

The quality of our relationships is one of the strongest predictors of our health, resilience and wellbeing, which is why Thrive4Life is bringing in relationship specialist Dr Shannon Hirst for this month's lunchtime talk.

When pressure is high, it's easy to misread someone's tone, react more sharply than intended, or lose touch with the people around us. In this engaging, science-backed session, Dr Hirst will bring the latest relationship research to life - sharing the small, practical communication shifts that reduce friction and strengthen connection, at work and beyond. You'll leave with simple techniques you can put into practice the same afternoon.

Webinar duration: About 30 minutes, plus time for questions and answers.

Your speaker is Dr Shannon Hirst

Dr Shannon Hirst is a chartered research psychologist who joined OnePlusOne in 2019 after completing a PhD on attachment and forgiveness, and postdoctoral research on emotional adaptation following relationship dissolution - focusing on how we conceptualise and measure people's experiences during this time. Shannon has a particular research interest in the things we do to maintain and improve our relationships day-to-day, and how we navigate relationship transitions.

She is passionate about applied research and using evidence to help people have fulfilling, meaningful relationships. Shannon has collaborated with a number of universities as an impact partner, and delivers guest lectures on the importance of applied psychology and the role of the third sector in research. Most recently, she was on the organising committee for the International Association for Relationship Research conference in Glasgow, where she also hosted a public engagement event helping academics share their research with the general public.
